About me
Music has fascinated me from a young age and led me down many paths on the guitar. I played classical guitar alongside modern styles in my teenage years, leading me to study jazz and classical guitar at Leeds Conservatoire (previously Leeds College of music). I graduated with a First in 2021, and received prestigious awards for my classical playing along the way, including the 2017 Leicester Music Festival Guitar Award and a scholarship to study with Laura Snowden at the Cardiff Guitar Festival in 2018. Since graduating, I've toured the country several times with Leeds Rock bands Green Gardens, Crake and Hirehorse. My playing's been heard in venues across the UK as well as on national radio. This is a breadth of experience that you can rely on to nourish your relationship with the guitar
What To Expect
Student Led Approach- I understand that music is deeply personal and I tailor my lessons the tastes of the learner. On top of this, I can adapt my teaching style to the specific needs of the student. There's no one way to approach this diverse instrument!
Progress Tracking- My lessons are all about progress. I'm not here to string students along a meandering path that doesn't bring about results. Together we can design goals and I'll plan a course of action to ensure that we get those results. I'll also provide feedback over google drive.
Healthy Practice Guidance- We're all familiar with the sore fingertips that come from guitar playing, but I teach guitar in a way that reduces the risk of developing aches and pains that can arise when we really push ourselves. I'm also interested in the mental processes involved with learning guitar, and and I've developed some mental strategies to make the learning process easier.
Grades available- I've worked with students from beginner to grade 8. Some students have even gone on to do diplomas. Although grades aren't for everyone, I'm happy to follow this path in lessons.
Catering to many styles- Music is about much more than genres, and even though I've listed a few in my bio, I can cater to any taste range.
