Julian Lage is a name that sparks immediate interest in my guitarist peers. He plays guitar with the same ease as water running down a mountain. Surely that's something we're all looking for.
I'm contstantly hearing new things in favourite recordings of his and I'm often surprised by discovering his range as a player. I got really into his album with Chris Eldridge 'Mount Royal', a duo album consisting of original tunes and armerican folk standards. His playing seems to have marinated in traditional american folk forms, so hearing an album so dedicated to these roots makes total sense. I've been transcribing this tune 'Broadcast' along with some others. It's been so beneficial for my picking technique. Coming from a fingerpicking background I tend to gravitate towards fingerstyle but I've really put the work into this to get that plectrum working. I'm reaping the rewards and enjoying the bounce and lilt of this tune so much. I'll be posting more videos and uploading tabs to the blog through my soundslice account. If this is something you'd like to have a crack at yourself, you won't have to wait long. The tabs are coming! I'm so excited to share more music with you and I hope you find some of it useful.
